English Learner Services


SCOE provides support focused on strengthening instructional programs and ensuring the academic success of second-language learners. The EL Services program offers professional development, coaching, and support services to assist schools in enhancing the capacity of instructional staff and meeting legal mandates with a goal of raising English learner achievement.


EL Collaborative, 2016-17
These bi-monthly meetings provide collaboration and networking opportunities for specialists, teachers, and coordinators who work with English learners. Scheduled in the morning, the 3-hour sessions include study of relevant English learner topics, sharing and analysis of instructional activities, presentations, and readings. Please check back for information on 2016-17 meetings.

English Learner Leadership Conference Resources
The 2016 Conference featured keynote speakers Ryan J. Smith of the Education Trust-West, and Jennifer Vargas Esquivel, Sacramento Area Youth Speaks poet-mentor. Additional speakers were featured in breakout sessions covering a range of topics. See the presentation slides and handouts.

Presentation Slides: Empowering Parents of English Learners through LCFF
This mid-November workshop gave parents of English learners, EL coordinators, and other representatives of District English Learner Advisory Committees and Parent Advisory Committees an opportunity to review the purpose and responsibilities of these committees under the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF).
