The five-member Sonoma County Board of Education, which provides community stewardship of countywide education initiatives, is seeking applicants to fill a seat vacated by Khaalid Muttaqi.

Muttaqi resigned effective Nov. 6 in order to take a new job in Sacramento. His Area 3 seat, which represents the central Santa Rosa area depicted on this map, expires in 2016. The area’s boundaries are the same as County Supervisor’s District 3, which is represented by Shirlee Zane.

Anyone who resides in that district and is a registered voter can apply by mailing or hand-delivering a letter of interest and resume to Anne Layton, Executive Assistant to Superintendent Steven D. Herrington, at 5340 Skylane Boulevard, Santa Rosa, 95403. These application materials must be received by Nov. 30 in order to be considered.

Candidates will then be interviewed by the County Board of Education members at their Dec. 10 meeting. The board has until Jan. 5 to select a new board member for a provisional appointment, which lasts through the end of 2016. The member will have the option of running for re-election in 2016.

Regular meetings of the Sonoma County Board of Education are typically held at 4:00pm on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonoma County Office of Education, 5340 Skylane Boulevard, Santa Rosa.

Potential applicants can see if they reside in District 3 using this link.
