Message from the Superintendent about the Equity Study and the Work Ahead

03/28/2024 -

Dear Team,

Like you, I've just read today's released Equity Study (English | Spanish), and I am processing its many insights. At this pivotal time in our organization's journey, I wanted to share a few of my thoughts via video with all of you.

First and foremost, it's important to recognize why equity matters. Equity isn't just a buzzword; it's a fundamental principle that ensures everyone has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. By prioritizing equity, we aim to dismantle barriers that prevent certain individuals or groups from fully participating, feeling included, and succeeding within our organization.

The study serves as a crucial tool for us to evaluate where we stand in terms of promoting equity and identify areas where improvement is needed. While the findings may be sobering, it's essential to view them as an opportunity for growth and positive change rather than a cause for alarm.

I feel strongly that those with the most positional power in our system, must come to this work with the courage to listen to criticism with humility and openness. I welcome frank and candid feedback, and hope this report is a catalyst for more transparency more transparency and accountability in our system.

I want to reassure each and every one of you that you are an integral part of this process. Your voices matter, and your perspectives are vital in shaping the strategies and initiatives we implement moving forward. Rest assured that more opportunities for discussion and input in small groups, poster walks, 1:1, and online will be scheduled in the weeks ahead.

In the coming months, we will be rolling out a series of initiatives based on your feedback --- all aimed at addressing the findings of the equity report and fostering a more inclusive and equitable workplace culture. This work is bigger than one person or division...it will take all of us.

Thank you for your dedication and commitment to our organization's mission. Together, I am confident that we can create positive change and make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.

Warmly,

Amie Carter, Ed.D.
