Radical Collaboration at SXSWedu

One of the great things about the SXSWedu conference is the collaboration between different groups of people.  There is a good mix of participants attending and presenting including educators, edtech professionals, educational non profits and policy makers.  The national scope of the conference allows participants to gain a broad perspective of what is working in education and where things are headed.

This year I presented with Aaron Jobson, architect from QKA, Gina Silveira, Principal of Schaefer Charter School, and Adrian Swain, HEAD Project Researcher from IBI Group in Liverpool, UK, to show how school facility design impacts student learning.    Aaron, Gina and I had never met Adrian in person until we arrived in Austin last week.  All of our preparation was done online and had to accommodate the large time zone difference between California and the UK.  It is this type of radical collaboration that creates the unique learning possibilities at SXSWedu.  We were able to use a study about facility design in the UK and apply it to classrooms in California and showcase ways to increase student learning.   You can look at the slides from our presentation below and see the resources that go along with it here.
