Transition Fair connects students with special needs to community resources

The 10th annual Transition Fair will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from 3:00-6:00pm at the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE), 5340 Skylane Boulevard, Santa Rosa.

This free event is designed to help students and their families learn about services for individuals with special needs as they transition from school-based programs to adulthood. Sonoma County special education students in middle school, high school, and post-secondary programs and their families are invited to attend. Spanish interpreters will be available.

Service providers will be at the event to provide information and answer questions about residential options, adult day programs, vocational training, employment, and much more.

There will be a panel presentation about SSI (Supplemental Security Income). The following will be discussed:

  • understanding SSI
  • eligibility
  • application process
  • appeals
  • working while receiving SSI
  • Student earned income exclusion
  • CalABLE and Medi-Cal for working people with disabilities, etc.

Presenters will include Maggie O’Brien, Certified Work Incentives Planner and a Social Security Administration Representative. Presentations are at 3:30 and 5 pm.

The Transition Fair is a service of the Sonoma County Transition Consortium, which consists of representatives from SCOE, North Bay Regional Center, Department of Rehabilitation, local school districts and adult service providers.
