05/18/2015 - The Oak Grove Union School District Board of Trustees today announced the selection of Michael Kellison as its new superintendent, effective July 1. Mr. Kellison will provide administrative and instructional leadership to this K-8 district in western Sonoma County, which serves 975 students on two campuses.
Mr. Kellison brings 15 years of experience to Oak Grove Union and a strong history of advocating for children and guiding diverse educational institutions. He currently serves as principal of Austin Creek Elementary School in the Rincon Valley School District, which is one of Sonoma County’s highest performing schools. Under his leadership, the school earned California Distinguished School recognition, successfully transitioned to the Common Core State Standards, and increased its focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in grades 4-6. During his eight-year tenure at Rincon Valley Union, Mr. Kellison also served as the site administrator for Madrone Elementary. He began his administrative career at Roseland School District, then moved to Marin County’s Ross Valley School District where he was principal of Brookside Elementary School.
“The Board is pleased and excited with our choice of Michael Kellison to be the next superintendent of Oak Grove Union School District,” says Board President Matthew “Shawn” Schondel. “His mix of experience, personality, and commitment to students is a great fit and we know he will help ensure that we continue to be a successful and desirable charter district for Sonoma County. We had an amazing field of candidates, but he rose to the top from the very beginning. Our Board of Trustees and the community interview team were very impressed with his credentials and dedication to high-quality education.”
The Sonoma County Office of Education facilitated the superintendent search process for the Oak Grove Union School District. The position was advertised statewide and drew a large pool of applicants. The Board of Trustees selected Mr. Kellison following a review of applicant qualifications and two sets of interviews.
