Candidates for County Superintendent of Schools Outline Priorities at SCOE Forum

All three candidates for Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools outlined their priorities and philosophies for an audience of Sonoma County Office of Education employees and partner agencies at an April 26, 2022, candidates forum.
With current Superintendent Dr. Steven D. Herrington set to retire at the end of 2022, the three candidates for the election being held June 7, 2022 are:
The candidates addressed employee-centered issues such as declining enrollment and layoffs within SCOE’s special education programs. They also discussed broader questions surrounding student mental health, the challenges of attracting and retaining qualified staff, and the role of the County Office in assisting the region’s 40 school districts.

Voting by mail in the race begins May 9. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in June, the top two candidates will advance to a runoff election on Nov. 8, 2022.
