Tara Beiden
Years at SCOE:

Job Title:
Senior Division Support Assistant
How do you describe your job to people outside SCOE?
I usually tell people that I support the department/division that hosts trainings for and supports teachers and administrators. Lots of paperwork, paying bills, calendaring, etc.
Where did you grow up?
Petaluma
Who was your favorite childhood teacher and why?
My 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Malkus. She was firm and had clear expectations but warm and caring at the same time. She taught us how to properly shake someone's hand by having us shake hers and say good morning each day. Learning the electric slide during PE is one of my favorite memories of her.
What is your favorite thing about SCOE?
The dedicated, fun-loving, caring people I get to work with everyday.
What is one of your most memorable moments as a SCOE employee?
Coordinating trips for educators to attend the Museum of Tolerance, and attending two of the trips myself.
Outside of work, what is your favorite hobby or way to unwind?
I like to sit down with a good book or go hiking with my son and husband. During basketball season, I love watching all the Warriors games as a family.
Do you have a favorite TV show, movie or book that involves a school setting?
As a kid, I loved Saved by the Bell, Boy Meets World, and the Matilda movie.
What is your favorite place in Sonoma County?
West Petaluma, especially the area outside of town. Lots of fun memories and nostalgia.
What might people be surprised to learn about you?
I went to Sac State as a criminal justice major, with an interest in criminal profiling, but when it came time to choose a direction for my education based on a career goal, I quickly realized it wasn’t for me. I switched to Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Family Studies and felt much more at home in those classes and with my peers.
