Name:
Asia Teixeira
Years at SCOE:
2 years, 9 months
Job Title:
Human Resources Analyst
How do you describe your job to people outside SCOE?
Recruiting, hiring and onboarding classified employees and helping people every day. I get to do all the best parts of HR.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Southern California and we moved to Northern California when I was 9 years old. So I basically grew up in Sonoma County.
Who was your favorite childhood teacher and why?
My 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Penny. I had to start wearing glasses at a very young age and was teased by all the kids. So I would hide my glasses in my see through “jelly bag” between two dictionaries. My mom thought I was studying the dictionary. Once my mom and Mrs. Penny spoke to discuss my progress with my new glasses, they caught on to me. Mrs. Penny stopped wearing her contacts and started wearing her glasses with me so I wouldn’t be alone. I will always remember her kindness.
What is your favorite thing about SCOE?
I love being part of such an amazing team that always wants to help others succeed. It has always been my goal to work in the HR department at SCOE.
What is one of your most memorable moments as a SCOE employee?
Every day is memorable in HR…. Ha Ha. I have to say, I really pride myself on acknowledging and greeting people by name. When I started at SCOE at the end of January 2020, COVID happened. I spent most of my first year at SCOE working from home. When we came back to the office, I had to get to know everyone with a mask. It was so wonderful when we were able to remove the masks and get to put the faces with the names. Now I love when I can walk down the halls and say hello to (most) everyone by name. When I do not know someone’s name, I always ask…. well, I’ll ask whoever I am with because I am too shy to ask the actual person.
Outside of work, what is your favorite hobby or way to unwind?
I love spending time with my family. I also enjoy entertaining, working in my yard, and remodeling my house with my husband, as a team. He would probably not consider this a hobby or a way to unwind since he is in construction; however, it is fun for me.
Do you have a favorite TV show, movie or book that involves a school setting?
I don’t think any of my favorites involve schools. All my favorite shows are medical dramas and firefighter dramas (Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, The Good Doctor, 9-1-1, Station 19, etc.)
What is your favorite place in Sonoma County?
The ocean! Something about the ocean is so calming and peaceful for me.
What might people be surprised to learn about you?
My husband and I have seven kids (his, mine and ours). We currently have nine grandkids and the 10th is due in November.
