Creative Sonoma Artist Residencies (Now Accepting Applications!)
Date: 01/16/2019

SCOE is pleased to announce that the Creative Sonoma Teaching Artist Residency Program is officially accepting applications. FREE residencies with these teaching artists are available now through June 2019. The residencies will be awarded on a first come, first-served basis and will be scheduled as long as funds last.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Earlier, we announced that SCOE will be using the remainder of our fire relief grant funds to partner with Creative Sonoma to extend their offering of free, trauma-informed teaching artist residencies to Sonoma County schools.
Creative Sonoma launched this program last school year following the wildfires and has already provided more than 46 residencies in 17 local schools. Teaching artists have been specially trained in providing art residencies for students indirectly and directly affected by the fires. They've also been fingerprinted. Artists engage with the same group of students for no less than six hours of instruction per residency, allowing ideas, discussions, and trust to fully develop in processing last fall’s fires. For the purpose of this program, residencies are defined as 8 hours - 6 hours of student contact time and 2 hours of prep and collaboration for the teaching artist.
Additional details, including a directory of the available teaching artists and the subjects they cover, are available here.
WHO CAN APPLY
All schools are encouraged to apply (including schools that have previously hosted residencies) as we know the fires' impact spread far beyond the areas actually burned. Students having received residency service in 2018 are not eligible. However, schools having participated in 2018 may submit an application for a different set of students. Priority will be given to schools that have not previously received services.
