Welcoming Schools 10th Annual National Day of Reading: A Celebration of Trans Stories
Please join SCOE, Sonoma County Library, Amor Para Todos, Positive Images, and LGBTQ Connection to celebrate Welcoming Schools 10th Annual National Day of Reading: A Celebration of Trans Stories. This is a family-friendlyevent that will include readings for people of all ages, followed by discussion and arts and crafts activities.
In 2015, an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group forced a school in Wisconsin to cancel plans to read I am Jazzby Jazz Jennings and Jessica Herthel in support of a transgender student. In response, more than 600 residents of a town of fewer than 8,000 showed up at a public reading organized by a parent to show the students that the community had their backs. Every year, in honor of this show of allyship, communities across the country join the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Welcoming Schools program for its annual National Day of Reading. Únase a SCOE, la Biblioteca del Condado de Sonoma, Amor Para Todos, Positive Images y LGBTQ Connection para celebrar el décimo Día Nacional Anual de Lectura de Welcoming Schools: una celebración de historias trans. Este es un evento familiar y tendremos lecturas para personas de todas las edades, seguidas por conversaciones, actividades de artes y manualidades.
En 2015, un grupo de odio anti-LGBTQ+ obligó a una escuela en Wisconsin a cancelar sus planes de leer I am Jazz, de Jazz Jennings y Jessica Herthel, en apoyo a un estudiante transgénero. En respuesta, más de 600 residentes de una ciudad de menos de 8.000 habitantes se presentaron en una lectura pública organizada por un padre para mostrar a les estudiantes que la comunidad les respaldaba. Cada año, en honor a esta muestra de alianza, comunidades de todo el país se unen al programa Escuelas Acogedoras de la Fundación Campaña de Derechos Humanos para su Día Nacional de la Lectura anual.
