Youth Mental Health First Aid
Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) teaches caring citizens how to help adolescents ages 12-18 when they experience a mental health or addiction challenge, or when they are in crisis.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed for adults (parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other community members) who regularly interact with young people.
This course
- introduces common mental health challenges for youth,
- reviews typical adolescent development, and
- teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations.
Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.
More information about YMHFA can be found here.
A $10 participation fee is required, with remaining training costs sponsored by SCOE Behavioral Health.
This session is limited to 30 participants. Additional community training opportunities will be posted on scoe.org/classes as they become available.
