2023 Multilingual Learner and Migrant Parent Institute | 2023 Instituto de Liderazgo de Padres Migrantes y Estudiantes Multilingües
Co-sponsored by Migrant Education and the Sonoma County Office of Education, the Multilingual Learner and Migrant Parent Institute is an annual workshop dedicated to empowering parents of multilingual learners. Districts are encouraged to send members of their English Learner Parent Advisory Committees, as well as any other parents of English Learners who are interested. This workshop is free for all parents of multilingual learners and will be conducted in Spanish.
Copatrocinado por Educacion Migrante y la Oficina de Education del Condado de Sonoma, el instituto de Estudiantes Multilingües y Padres Migrantes es un taller anual dedicado a empoderar a los padres de estudiantess multilingü. Se alienta a los distrituos a enviar miembros de sus comités Asesores de Padres de Aprendices de inglés, asi como a cualquer otro padre de Aprendices de Inglés, asi como a cualquier otro padre de Aprendices de Inglés que esté interesado. Este taller es gratuito para todos los padres de estudiantes multilingües y se llevará a cabo en español.

Keynote / Orador Principal: Vicente Sosa Alfaro
Título: De Estudiante A Maestro / Title: Once a Student, Now a Teacher
Vicente Sosa emigró a los Estados Unidos a los dos años con su familia del estado de Michoacan, Mexico. Aunque tuvo bastantes desafíos en su camino y el sistema educativo falló en captar su individualidad y cultura, él pudo perseverar. Actualmente, el Maestro Vicente Sosa nos compartirá como sus experiencias le han guiado para apoyar a los estudiantes en el salón de clases.
Born in the Mexican state of Michoacan, Vicente Sosa was brought to the United States of America at two years old. While he faced many struggles in an education system that failed to see him both individually and culturally, he persevered. Now an educator himself, Mr. Sosa will discuss how his academic experiences serve as a guide to supporting the students in his classroom.

Daniela Dominguez: Assistant Professor at the University of San Francisco and C.E.O of On the Margins
Título: La Cultura Cura: La Importancia de la Identidad Cultural / Title: Culture Cures: The Importance of Cultural Identity
La Dra. Daniela Domínguez en colaboración con Victor Ferrer y el grupo Quetzalén, platicarán acerca de la relación entre las prácticas culturales y el poder de la sanación lo cual muestra poderes curativos de la cultura. Los padres de familia van a poder percibir y transmitir la importancia de combinar la música, el baile y el arte de una manera conjunta.
Dr. Daniela Domínguez, in collaboration with Victor Ferrer and the Quetzalén group, will highlight the powerful ways in which culture has healing powers. Parents will better understand the ways in which combining cultural music, dance and art provides an important outlet for healing.

Esta sesión se centrará en crear una mentalidad de ir a la universidad dentro de su familia mientras desacredita los mitos comunes sobre el acceso a la universidad. ¡Discutiremos los requisitos A-G, la ayuda financiera y cómo apoyar mejor a su (s) estudiante (s) para lograr el futuro de sus sueños!
This session will focus on creating a college-going mindset within your family while debunking common myths about college access. We will discuss A-G requirements, Financial Aid, and how to best support your student(s) to achieve the future of their dreams!
