Understanding the nature of science is also integral to the Next Generation Science Standards with its goal of developing scientifically literate citizens. Anna Van Dordrecht describes a science lesson that gave her students and opportunity to explore the human nature of science and had an unexpected twist for her own work as a science educator.

My Father’s Most Valuable Lesson: Teaching with Passion in the NGSS Era

For Anna Van Dordrecht’s entire career, she and her father have both taught at Maria Carrillo High School, on opposite sides of the campus. He is in the math building and she is across campus in the science wing. However, this will change in June when he retires after 37 years of teaching.
