Virtual Reality With Google Cardboard

Google released the Google Cardboard Camera app for IOS this week, the app was available to Android users earlier this year.  This app lets students and teachers with most smartphones create virtual reality experiences to use with the Google Cardboard headset.

Google Cardboard is an inexpensive VR viewer that allows you place a smartphone in headset to view virtual reality content.  You can purchase these viewers for around $10 or make them yourself in the SCOE Design Lab.

Creating VR content is a great way for students to showcase learning and experiences that take place outside of the classroom.  Students can create VR content about different ecosystems they visit and share it in science classes and with other students anywhere in the world.  Teachers can create VR content at historical or literary sites for virtual field trips; the curricular opportunities are unlimited.

There is already tons of VR content including virtual field trips available for students online.  A great place to get started is Google Expeditions.
