Adult Services at SDC
The Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC) has contracted with SCOE since 1991 to provide Adult Services to the residents of the Developmental Center in Eldridge, California.
The Adult Services program provides over 30 year-round classes, from two to five hours long, for nearly 300 residents of the Sonoma Developmental Center who have severe multiple disabilities. The program emphasizes individual-based support and addresses a variety of medical, sensory/motor, behavioral, and social challenges. Students benefit from the cooperative effort of numerous teachers and teaching assistants working in small classes across a wealth of learning environments.
An integrated approach focuses on such fundamental areas as:
- Recreation/leisure pursuits
- Mobility access
- Alternate positioning
- Sensory motor stimulation
- Communication
- Community-based activities
- Senior services
- Adaptive technology
The program is supported through the able services of a director, administrative assistant, substitute assignment technician, lead teacher, and part-time computer lab technician.
Adult Services has rigorously promoted both instructional quality and consistency of services. The program has set new standards for excellence at the Sonoma Developmental Center.
