Elementary Spelling Bee Results Are In

Elementary Spelling Bee Winners 2018Twenty students competed in the 2018 Sonoma County Elementary Spelling Competition held on Monday, March 12, at the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE). These students previously won school and regional spelling competitions, which made them eligible to compete for the title of county spelling champion.

Heyman Luong, a sixth-grader from Hidden Valley School in Santa Rosa, won first in the competition. He broke the tie in the thirteenth-round by spelling hypochondriac correctly, then spelling excursion to win the event. Second place went to fifth-grader Tristan Jordan, who attends Binkley Charter School in Santa Rosa. A couple of Tristan’s words were cantankerous and obstreperous.

First and second place winners received a trophy and advance to the 2018 California State Elementary Spelling Championship, which will be held at the San Joaquin County Office of Education on Saturday, May 12.
