Defining Achievement: The Challenges of Assessment and Evaluation
SCASA Breakfast Presentation by Dr. Patrick Callahan
This presentation will explore recent research on the validity of current assessments and the value-added evaluation of teachers. Alternative assessments will be discussed, with a focus on mathematics and the Common Core State Standards.
Dr. Patrick Callahan is the co-director of the California Mathematics Project state office and the former executive director of the University of California Science and Mathematics Initiative. He has led several statewide efforts to recruit, prepare, and support mathematics and science teachers and been involved in national research projects that study and assess teacher content knowledge and its impact on student learning. A former senior research scientist at WestEd, Dr. Callahan has continued to explore the structure of teacher networks and professional development.
