Lisa Hadley-Hill, a science teacher at Windsor High School, was named the Sonoma County Teacher of the Month for February 2024. The recognition was announced Wednesday, Feb. 28, during a staff meeting on the Windsor High School campus, where Hadley-Hill has taught since 1996. Staff complimented Hadley-Hill’s dedication to students and her passion for the subject she teaches during the meeting.
“I know anytime that I bring something to you that students are at the forefront of your mind, and what’s best for them, and I truly appreciate that about you,” Windsor High Principal Danielle Buckman said. “This (award) is very well deserved.”
The Sonoma County Teacher of the Month award recognizes public school teachers who show an exceptional level of service and dedication to their students. It is organized by the Sonoma County Office of Education in partnership with Hot 101.7 and Froggy 92.9, and is supported by sponsors Community First Credit Union and Henry Mechanical. Nominations for the award are solicited via on-air ads played on the two radio stations.
One of the nominations for Hadley-Hill commended her for her ability to inspire her students and spark their interest in science. Hadley-Hill’s current teaching assignments include advanced placement biology, anatomy and physiology, and foundations of physical and earth science.
“She provides opportunities, holds them accountable, and endlessly demonstrates encouragement and guidance, bringing out the best in her students,” the nomination read. “She embodies the best qualities of an educator (by) helping future generations ask questions and find solutions to what makes the world around them tick."
Hadley-Hill also spearheaded a desk giveaway for students who needed a comfortable, designated space for distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. She organized the effort in partnership with a community group called Seniors4Students.
Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Amie Carter applauded Hadley-Hill for the fierce commitment she’s shown to Windsor High students over the past 28 years.
“Comments from Windsor High staff and our community make it so clear that Lisa’s enthusiasm for the courses she teaches serves to inspire and energize the students who walk through her classroom doors,” Carter said. “Tenured educators like Hadley-Hill serve as mentors to their colleagues and strengthen our school communities as a whole. We cannot thank you enough for all you do for students, Lisa.”
In addition to the public recognition, Sonoma County Teacher of the Month award recipients are given a $500 classroom supply gift card from Community First Credit Union, an additional $100 gift card from Henry Mechanical, a plaque, flowers, and balloons.
Hadley-Hill was joined by her husband, sister-in-law, and mother-in-law during the announcement of the award. Hadley-Hill said she was grateful for the recognition.
“So many teachers, we really just work every day so hard for our students, and it’s really not about the honor, it’s about getting to share the joy,” Hadley-Hill said. “But certainly, the recognition for all of that hard work is much appreciated.”
